Another Crash - From Urgent Need to Pet
This is the story of an injured throughbred who needed surgery and how donations to FLTAP helped make that happen.
4/22/2007: INJURED THOROUGHBRED URGENTLY NEEDS YOUR HELP!!!
Tomorrow morning may be the end of the road for ANOTHER CRASH unless we can raise the estimated $3,000 to surgically repair a non-displaced lateral condylar fracture involving his right hind leg. This injury carries an excellent prognosis for return to soundness if it gets fixed before it displaces. CRASH is a lovely 3 year old bay gelding that was hurt while training yesterday morning at Finger Lakes Racetrack in Farmington, NY.
Update: 4/25/2007 Surgery Completed!
Below are some photos rom the first day I saw the horse, to him getting a cast on the leg and ready for transport to the Vet School at Cornell. He was operated on yesterday and recovered nicely. He is doing great this morning. The fracture was repaired to as perfect as possible using three lag screws; and there was little to no articular damage to the joint surface...meaning that he is expected to return to a state of soundness with no problems of degenerative joint damage or early onset of arthritis.

Update: 3/4/08 Crash Doing Well
Crash is doing SUPER well in his new home with Michelle Mcatee of Medford.
He lives about 4 miles from our farm. Michelle has another of our adoption horses too, a little bay mare named Back to Front that Crash adores! He is hardly ridden at all - is more like a "pet." Michelle says he follows her around like a puppy in turn-out. She loves him, his weight looks great and I keep in touch with Michelle regularly. I was really lucky to find such a nice spot for him and am so happy that he found Michelle. I will ask her for some pictures to forward to you for your webpage.
